Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles
 
 
Eligibility Check for Renewal Application:
  Q1. Has the owner of the vehicle remained unchanged since the previous application?
 
  Q2. Have the details of the vehicle (including the Hong Kong Registration Mark, Chassis No. / V.I. Number., Engine Number and colour, etc.) remained unchanged since the previous application?
 
  Q3. Has the designated driver(s) (including the number of designated driver(s) and their Hong Kong Identity Card No(s)., etc.) remained unchanged since the previous application?
(Note: If applicants would like to add, remove or change the designated driver(s), they will be ineligible for submitting renewal applications, and will be required to re-participate in the computer ballot to obtain an application quota.)
 
  Q4. Does the applicant have a valid Mainland Home Return Permit?
 
  Q5. Does the designated driver have a valid Hong Kong driving licence?
 
  Q6. Does the designated driver have a valid Mainland driving licence for small vehicles?
 
  Q7. Have you prepared the following supporting document (colour image in jpg or png format, pdf is not acceptable)?
(i) Vehicle Registration Document (front page);
(ii) Applicant’s Hong Kong Identity Card (both the front and back pages);
(iii) Applicant’s Home Return Permit (both the front and back pages);
(iv) Designated drivers’ Hong Kong Identity Card (both the front and back pages);
(v) Designated drivers’ Home Return Permit, or foreign passport with valid visa/endorsement (or residence permit, permanent resident card), or other international travel documents with valid visa/endorsement (or residence permit, permanent resident card) for entering the Mainland (both the front and back pages);
(vi) Designated drivers’ Mainland Driving Licence (both the front and side page);
(vii) Certificate of Roadworthiness (COR) for the vehicle (front page) (only applicable to Hong Kong private cars aged 6 years above (i.e. manufactured in 2019 or before with applications being submitted in 2026) and the certificate is issued by designated car testing centres in Hong Kong).
(Note 1: In case vehicle owners have already conducted vehicle examination for the renewal of vehicle licences, for applications under "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles", they may directly submit the latest COR. For the purpose of renewal of vehicle license, applicants are required to submit the COR in accordance with the relevant requirements.
Note 2: In facilitating vehicle owners in applying for "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles", the Transport Department has liaised with the Designated Car Testing Centres (DCTCs) in making special arrangement for vehicles aged 6 years with vehicle licences not due for expire within 4 months to receive vehicle examination. Relevant vehicle owners may contact DCTCs for arranging vehicle examination and obtaining the COR. Online appointment booking will not be accepted. Vehicle owners are required to contact DCTCs by phone call. A fee of HKD585 will be payable for the vehicle examination. Please click here for list of DCTCs and their contact number.)
 
  Q8. Are the applicant and / or designated driver(s) not subject to any traffic-related outstanding arrest warrant or court order?
(Note: Applicants may contact the Central Traffic Prosecutions Division of Hong Kong Police Force at 181 181 to enquire on their fixed penalty ticket(s), traffic summons(es) and / or court order(s).)
 
Please note that the above eligibility check for renewal applications is a preliminary check only, the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong reserve the final right to determine whether a case is considered as a renewal application or not.
